The Camden Head (formerly Liberties Bar) is one of Camden’s oldest boozers, established in 1787. People come to the Camden Head to enjoy quality beers & pub food served up by friendly staff in a relaxed environment by day & live music and comedy gigs by night.
Since its time as Liberties, there have been significant changes to the pub including a redecorated bar & a new tasty pub. food menu at affordable prices. There’s also more quality comedy, live music & spoken word events in the versatile upstairs function room, and some of the more homely features like the cosy fire have been enhanced with the addition of chesterfield furniture around it. Coffee is served all day and we have free wi-fi courtesy of Heineken Hub. The function room, with its own sound system, is also available for parties & private functions.Friday and Saturday nights at The Camden Head feature DJs in the main bar & on any given evening, there’s more than just a smattering of music-lovers soaking up the tunes being played through the pub’s new sound system.
The Camden Head has something unique to offer you, be it for a great night out, a place to go for a drink before or after a concert, or just somewhere different to relax after a hard days shopping at the Camden Markets. Whether you’re a regular or a potential new customer at the Camden Head, we look forward to seeing you at the bar next time you’re in Camden Town.
While The Camden Head has always enjoyed a long relationship with comedy, a renewed energy began to burst through the walls when new owners took over in 2008 (when it was called Liberties). Since then a new wave of independent promoters and comedians have been running their own nights in the 50-seater venue, as well as it being used for the likes of The Camden Crawl and The Camden Fringe.
The list of names who’ve appeared in our venue is quite long now and includes People From The Telly, cult heroes and hot faces on the alternative scene. Here, in no particular order, are just a few you might’ve missed: Stephen Merchant, Alan Carr, Rich Hall, Peter Serafinowicz, Bob Mortimer, Stephen Carlin, Adam Riches, Simon Munnery, Roisin Conaty, Nick Helm, Pappy’s, Daniel Rigby, Anna And Katy, Cardinal Burns, Angelos Epithemiu, Danielle Ward, Trevor Lock, Simon Donald, Rich Fulcher, Sara Pascoe, Jerry Sadowitz and many more.
The Camden Head sits in the heart of Islington, tucked away on the cobbled Camden Passage.
It couldn’t be more perfectly placed – It is just off the bustling heart Angel, across from the N1 Centre, in the heart of the Historic Antique Market – and only a stones throw away from the tranquil Regents Canal towpath.
It’s the perfect pub for summer or winter, with it’s stunning, original, wooden interiors it has a warm cosy feel in the winter months, whilst in the summer, the large open beer garden gives you a chance to soak up the sun and enjoy a jug of Pimms.
As well as hosting one of London’s busiest comedy nights it is also open late at weekends and has the friendliest bar staff this side of Dublin!
Quite simply, if you’re drinking anywhere else, you’ll still wish you were here!
